On a hilltop between the Sangro and Sinello rivers a few km from the Adriatic Sea and the beautiful sandy beaches of "le morge" and Casalbordino Lido. In July & August the centre of village life moves to the coast which springs to life as the Italians enjoy their summer break and the various camping centres open up their outdoor pools, water slides and sport facilities to their guests.
The village is the centre of a lively agricultural economy producing Olive Oil, quality wines, tobacco, tomatoes, onions, lemons, nuts, in fact you can grow pretty much anything here and the local cuisine reflects this. There are many excellent, good value fish & meat restaurants, Trattorias and Pizzerias in the area and the village itself has many amenities including 3 restaurants, 5 bars, gymnasium, football & tennis pitch, post office, supermarkets, pharmacy, doctors, bank with cash point, petrol station a number of shops, petrol station, three churches and some wonderful views from both sides of the town walls to the sea and mountains. The local bus service runs to Lanciano and Casalbordino and the train service located next to the coast will take you to Pescara and further afield.
The village lies in the middle of picturesque vegetation and nearby is one of the last remaining ancient Lecceta forests that once occupied the Adriatic coast. The protected wood consists of Ilex, Oaks, Ash, Turkey Oaks, Carpino, Orniello and Maples, extends for about 3 km along the coast intact. "Trabocchi" are unusual, fragile looking wooden fishing contraptions which evoke much interest and curiosity and are now protected structures that stand on stilts with ladders and are suspended over the turquoise sea at various points along the coastline.
The town has easy access to the Autostrada for exploring further a field in Italy and the mountains and the National Parks are less than an hour away. The larger towns of Lanciano, Vasto and Pescara are worth a visit for shopping, water parks, Bowling Alleys & Shopping centres coast and more extensive facilities including Pools, Bowling Alleys, Shopping Centres and numerous restaurants and Bars. The ski resort of Passo Lanciano is one of the cheapest and most accessible places to ski in Europe and is a pleasure for experienced or novice skiers. Follow our links for more information.
